The book-album “The collections of the Czech Republic” from the series “Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections” presents the monuments of art of our country held in several Czech cultural institutions. The largest collection of applied art of Uzbekistan is stored in the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures in Prague. It includes a wide range of items: textiles (traditional fabrics, clothing, embroidery), metal products (vessels and jewellery), ceramics and musical instruments. No less interesting is the collection of Uz- bek embroidery from the National Gallery in Prague. The album also published a number of artifacts from the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen, Červená Lhota State Castle and the National Library in Prague. Collections stored in the cultural institutions of the Czech Republic are evidence of the high level of the art tradition of Uzbekistan from the middle of the 19th century till now.

The publication is intended not only for members of the academic research community, but also for broad domestic and foreign audiences, and members of the younger generation who are interested in the rich cultural heritage of Uzbekistan. The project, which has no analogue in the world, has proceeded thanks to the personal attention of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the issues of carefully preserving, enriching and augmenting the historical, cultural and intellectual legacy of the Uzbek people.

Readers will be able to expand their understanding of the rich culture and art of Uzbekistan by means of the documentary filmed specially for the project, available on the disk accompanying this volume.

Further books are planned in the multi-volume series “The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan in World Collections” dedicated to unique examples of the historical and cultural legacy of Uzbekistan.
