The Louvre Museum
The Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre, often used as the Louvre) is one of the largest and most popular art museums. The museum is located in the center of Paris, on the Right Bank of the Seine, on the street Rue de Rivoli, in the city’s 1st arrondissement .
The museum building is an ancient royal palace (Palais du Louvre). The equestrian statue of Louis XIV marks the beginning of the so-called historical axis of Paris. The Louvre Museum is one of the oldest museums with a rich history of collecting artistic and historical relics of France, from the time of the Capetian dynasty up to now.
The Louvre collected everything, that can be called universal. Its collections cover huge geographical and temporal spaces: from Western Europe to Iran through Greece, Egypt and the Middle East; from antiquity to the 1848.
